Spiritual Resilience Training (a YouTube channel series)

Below is a screenshot that hyperlinks to a series of relatively brief non-religious videos on the dynamics of values.  The purpose, as stated on the banner of the channel, is to equip and encourage greater awareness for management (leadership) of self and others.

I vetted military approval and initiated the site as one of three such channels while stationed as one of only two Chaplains in a military unit of 13,000+ scientists, engineers, technicians and their support personnel spread out over four continents.  The other channels are on Master Resilience Training (focusing on the dynamics of beliefs/thinking) and Christian Resilience Training (focusing on the dynamics of relationship).

As you might imagine, such a demographic population is highly intelligent, analytical, logical, confident and tenacious.  Those same positive traits, however, can lead to a laser-focus on non-personal tasks and hinder understanding and skills in relationships.  Due to the geographic challenges to building foundational rapport and providing needs-based training, I established the site and provide weekly videos to bring a “virtual presence” for education and pastoral care to my dispersed flock.

Resilience is rightly more and more of a concern and concerted effort in our complex and stressed society, one intense microcosm of which is our military.  The Army has well-defined the goals and paths to Physical Resilience (and a few other areas to slightly lesser degrees).  In my opinion, however, the Army’s definition and plan for Spiritual Resilience lacks clarity for practical focus on goals and means.  Due to the Army’s established program on Master Resilience Training (a program of cognitive/behavioral psychology largely from Albert Ellis’ work, further developed at the University of Pennsylvania), I chose to balance/compliment the view to Resilience by considering issues of the heart:  values.  This address of “head” and “heart” concerns dovetailed well with the foundational dynamic of relationships:  Christian Resilience Training (a series of devotional thoughts from God’s Word)

My reasoning in establishing three separate channels was to allow individuals the freedom to subscribe and, thus, receive only what they wanted.  This has at least two benefits:  I avoid the appearance of proselytizing individuals who do not want to view Christian videos, and the content of the other channels may eventually prompt their openness and interest to consider the channel of Christian videos.  In my opinion, it’s one of the very reasons that the Lord Jesus met the felt needs of healing and feeding the masses:  He demonstrated His care and ability to meet their initial needs, often resulting in their search for deeper needs.

I hope you find the concept and/or content helpful to your own ministries of outreach.
