Category Archives: Satisfaction Sundays

How can we find greater and greater satisfaction in God? By knowing that, through the work of Jesus Christ and the Spirit, God the Father finds great satisfaction in all who follow Jesus by faith in Him.

In this series I will be highlighting this amazing love as we read through His Word over the year.

God’s love for His people because of Christ should be our focus every day, but it’s especially appropriate for Sundays.

Most Christians observe the Lord’s Sabbath (rest) on Sunday probably because the early church intentionally moved their worship from the historic sixth day Sabbath to a first day Sabbath. (Acts 20:7 and 1 Corinthians 16:2) Why? In Old Testament times, they looked forward to the rest they would receive from God through the Messiah. Now we recognize that we look back on what the Messiah, Jesus, has accomplished in His death and resurrection. And we look forward to His return when we will come for His people to live with Him in perfect joy forever.

For Jesus said, “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:32-34)

The book of Judges: …right in our own eyes

The last few chapters of Judges describe professing followers of God committing some of the most horrific acts in the Bible. What happened, and what are we to learn from this?  One thing is clear, the problem didn’t happen overnight. … Continue reading

The book of Joshua: 3 promises of the Promised Land

Arguably, the most hotly contested land in the world is the little country of Israel. For millenia, Jewish people have claimed a literal God-given right to it; modern Muslims have said it’s theirs; and others believe it has a more … Continue reading

What’s different in Deuteronomy?

One of the challenges to reading straight through the Bible is getting through all of the repetition in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.  It just seems the books could have been a lot shorter if the Lord didn’t repeat Himself so … Continue reading

Leviticus and Numbers: the Qualitative and Quantitative Love of God

Would you believe Leviticus and Numbers are two of my favorite books in the Bible?  I know…they can seem complex, redundant, and even weird.  But I hope to help you see that they are truly incredible expressions of God’s love. … Continue reading

A Theme of Exodus: “the God of the Impossible, the Insignificant, and the Undeserving”

I am a huge fan of movies about heroes, especially if they’re an underdog.  They see someone in need and save them by risking their own skin, often losing some of it in the process.  It reminds me of what’s most … Continue reading

Genesis 38, is God sometimes random?

Have you ever wondered if the Lord is sometimes random?  Take Genesis 38, for example.  For the first 11 chapters of Genesis, the Lord revealed how He created everything, why Mankind rebelled against Him, and how our ‘independence’ only gets … Continue reading

The Heart of God

When I think of God’s heart, I think about my Dad.  Kindness, strength, practical wisdom, commitment, forgiveness, and, most of all, compassion for the lost have marked my Dad’s life.  In fact, today is his 80th birthday. I’m sad that … Continue reading

How joyful is God?

I have to confess, I’m not a naturally joyful person. Probably like you, I’ve seen and experienced a lot of junk in my life.  So each time I open the Bible, I naturally (and I use that word very intentionally) … Continue reading
